RUGBY LEAGUE (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, September 17. Oldham v. French Thirteen, 26 —26. BOXING M’LARNIN BEATS ROSS. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, September 17. (Received Sept. 18, at 8.30 p.m.) Jimmy M'Larnin regained his world’s welter-weight championship to-night by winning a stirring 15-round bout from Barney Ross. A crowd of 25,000 paid about 115,000 dollars to witness the contest, which took place at Madison Square Gardena, Long Island. M'Larnin weighed lOst 6£lb and Ross 10st ilb. The two judges were divided, but the referee cast his deciding vote in favour of M'Larnin on fighting and boxing ability combined. Ross scored sporadically on a furious two-fisted attack, drawing considerable blood. One of M'Larnin’s eyes was closed and Ross was hammering him with both hands at the bell, but early points scored on a slashing opening attack and crafty infighting gave M'Larnin the advantage.
