POPULAR OPERA CONCERT

His Majesty’s Theatre should be well patronised to-night, when a most interesting programme of operatic scenes wall be presented by the Grand Opera Club, local and visiting artists. Mr Arthur Macdonald will open the “ Pagliacei” selection with the Prologue, a number which the popular singer gives with a variety of expression. The “ Rigoletto ” quartet lias been heard a number of times before on tile concert platform, but this evening it will be presented in costume and with action. The singers will bo Sigiiorina Rossi, Miss Bertha Rawlinson. Mr Alfred Wahnsley, and Mr Don MTnnes. Mr Wftlrnsley will also sing “ Plume in the Summer Wind” ("La donna e mobile”), and Signorina Rossi the beautiful “Caro Nome.” Mr Evan Tuckwoll takes part in the stirring finale to "Rigoletto.” Miss Lilian M'Donald, the brilliant operatic soprano, now teaching in Timaru, lias come south especially for this concert, and Will combine with, Mr''Kershaw and Mr Wnimsloy in the final scene and trio from Gounod’s “Faust.” Mr Kershaw ~nd All* Wnimsloy will also sing the great transformation scene from the opening of “Faust.” This number Invs boon sung by these two singers privately on more than one occasion, ami is tremendously effective. A big selection from “ Cavallerio Utisrioaiia ” includes the well-known “ Mother. You Know the Story,” for soprano solo (Aliss APDonnld). the tenor aria “0 Lola, Pretty One” (“ Siciliano ”), sung by Air Alfred Wnlmsley, the Easter Hymn by the Grand Opera Chorus, and the groat quarrel scene, by Aliss APDonald, Aliss Mamie Kenward, Mrs Euddenklan (of Timaru). Air Walmsley. and Air Clem Howell. The accompaniments to these numbers will be played on piano and organ.
