WORKERS’ SELF-HELP ASSO v- . : CIATION

A general meeting of the Workers’ SelfHelp Association, No. 2 District, was held on Monday last, the chairman (Mr W. H. Patrick) presiding over a fair attendance of, members. The association has an Employment Bureau with a list of reliable men of ail trades waiting to be called to any job that may be required. A-few men-have been placed in casual work, but the scheme could be more used by the public. A Social Committee was formed to conduct dances, which were held every Saturday in the Normal School Hall. They had been a great success, and it was hoped the committee could still retain the support it was getting. It was decided to hold a dance in the near future, the proceeds to be lianded to Uncle Ben for his fund in connection with the children in Hospital. Within a week it was hoped to hold a waltzing competition. There was a good floor and dance band, so a good evening’s, entertainment is promised. A special night will be held on Labour Day. - The winners of last Saturday’s Monte Carlo number were. Miss Drinnan and Mr Winton, while the statue dance’was won by Miss J. Cottle and Sir C. Godeny. - ’
