KAIKORAI CLUB The annual meeting of the Kaikorai Cricket Club was held last night. Mr H. M. Wilkinson presided. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet the chairman said that the club could look back on a very successful season, and he thought that with a little luck the senior team would have filled a higher place in the championship. The club was now in the process of building for the future, and, as far as possible, it should build from its own material. Unfortunately the fielding of the club had fallen away since its elevation to senior status, and this was probably due to the fact that insufficient time was devoted to practice in this department of the game. He believed that the club would benefit if one night a week were devoted to fielding. The methods adopted by players at practice were criticised by the chairman, who stated that breakages of bats were frequently due to bad strokes. He advised members to practise defensive strokes and to remember that Bradman lifted only one ball in scoring over 240. He was pleased to hear that sufficient subscriptions had been collected that night to wipe off a debit balance. Actually the subscriptions collected during the year amounted to only £42, whereas the club actually expended £llß. He expressed the indebtedness of the club to those who had assisted in raising the funds to so large an amount over the subscriptions. He urged members, however, to keep in mind their responsibilities towards the club. If they did not it would be necessary to raise the subscriptions. In conclusion, he referred to the good-spirit which existed in the club and expressed the hope that it would continue. The motion was carried.
