GENERAL NEWS

The annual meeting of the Forbury Lawn Tennis Club was held at _Forbury School. The president (Mr J. Roberts) presided over a fair attendance of mem* bers. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—-Patron, Mr V. D. Steadman; president, Mr J. Roberts; secretary, Mr J. A. Gibson; treasurer, Miss A. Holley; club captain, Mr G. Youngman; selector, Mr <L A. Gibson; committee—Misses B. Malcolm and L. Grimmett and Mr G. Youngman; auditor, Mr R- Caradus; delegates to Lawn Tennis Union, Messrs' G. Lockhart and J". Gibson. The opening day will be held on Saturday, September 22, * ~, •, The Radiant Health Club held its weakly meeting on Monday night in the Radiant .Hall. There was a good attendance of members and visitors. The evening took the form of a bring and buy safe combined with a social evening. Items were, contributed by Mrs Gilbert and Mrs Beath, Miss Hardy being the accompanist. The annual smoke concert of the 12tli Field Battery, N.Z.A.. was held on the evening of Wednesday, September 12, in the Kia Ora Restaurant. About C 3 members and guests - of the unit, 'including the commanding officers of all the sister Dunedin units and kindred arms of the Defence service, under the chairmanship of the 0.C., Major L. .A. Rhodes, spent a very enjoyable evening. A lengthy toast list interspersed with items of a varied and interesting nature kept the gathering entertained and considerably increased the bond of friendship between all defence units of the city.
