PROGENY OF MARTIAN
The progeny of Martian disappeared from the'racecoursewithin a comparatively short period after his death, and (says “Phaeton”) it seems very, unlikely that any will be further heard of in racing. The record winning total of the Martian family is, however, in no danger of being beaten. Comedy King, who figures in second position to Martian, is also dead. His progeny captured £7367 in prize money last season, but the grand total is still over £50,000 less than that of Martian. Following is a list of the prize-money won by the progeny of leading, sires in New Zealand.and Australia; Martian (1901), by Martagon— Otterden, sired in England and foaled in 'New Zealand .. .. £372,907 Comedy King (1907), by Persimmon—Tragedy Queen, bred in, England and imported to Australia when : a foal .. .. ;.. 322,751 Linacrc (1904), by Wolf’s Crag -Lismaine, bred in England 297,'330 The' Welkin- (1904), by Flying i , Fox—Woodbury, bred in Eng l >: <: land • . ... .... .. ... , 289,313 Malstcr (1897), by BilPof Portland—Barley, breddn Australia 285,224 Absurd (1909), by '- Absurdity, bred in England . 283,054 Magpie (,1914), by Dark Ronald ! —-Popinjay, .bred’ in (.England 270,879 Grafton (1894), by GalopinMaid Marion,' bred;in- England. 260,232 Valais (1913), by Cicero —Lily of the Valley, bred, in England 260,559 St, Anton (1909), by St. Frusqin •> —Grig,, bred in England , .. 251,188 Pistol (1899), • by 1 Carbine— Weiibnah, bred,in Wallace (1892)- by Carbine— Melodius, bted in Australia ~ 246,145 Kilbroney (1907), by The Wag : rt-Innismakil; bred in Ireland ,224,508 Limoud , (1913), by Desmond—- : Lindal, (bred in.
