BUILDING ACTIVITY
~ WELLINGTON’S FIGURES FOR EIGHT MONTHS INCREASE ON 1933 AND 1932 While the value of buildings represented by permits issued by the Wellington City Council for last month was less than for August of last year, a suitable increase is shown in the eight-month period ended August 31, as compared with the corresponding' period last year. While this is satisfactory, it should be noted that this year’s figures have been considerably reinforced by the inclusion of the two big insurance blocks now in course of construction in the centre of the city. On the other hand, they do not include the new railway station, as the Government does not seek a permit from the City Council for- any of its buildings. The eight months’ figures for this year arc as follows, the figures for 1933 ami 1932 being also given:—
