SOUTH OTAGO

The monthly meeting of the. South Otago High School Board of Governors, held on Monday night, was presided over by the chairman (Mr W. Roy). The report of the secretary (Miss M‘Leod) on the finances of the board showed a bank credit of. £B9 15s sd. The report was adopted, and accounts amounting to £l4 9s Id were passed for payment. The, rector (Mr J. Garfield Anderson), in the course of his monthly report, stated t at the attendance at the end of the term was 183 (85 boys and 98 girls), which compared quite favourably with the attendance at the beginning of the . term (187). The attendance at the evening classes had been fairly satisfactory, an average of 10 to 12 being maintained over all the classes. Thanks were; due to Mr J. T. Sinclair, Mr E. Wilson, and Miss E. Mitchell for their donations of shrubs and also to Miss Tosh and Whitcombe and Tombs for a donation of books to the school library. The following nominations for the vacancy on the board were received:—Messrs O. R. Throp, J. W. Fenton, and E. B. Lothian. , Tfce report and balance sheet of the Kaitangata Co-operative Dairy Company show that the company made a profit for the year of £269 2s lOd, notwithstanding that the season had been a difficult one owing to low prices. The company consigned the first part of the season’s output, and were fortunate in disposing of the latter part, which materially assisted the average pay,-out. Milk received totalled 2,981,1331 b; butter-tat, 115,577.851 b; cheese manufactured, 297,7971 b; average test, 4.03; final payout, 9.05 d per lb butter-fat. The usual high standard of quality had been maintained, and the manager (Mr N. Gallagher) was to be congratulated on his success in the grading competitions in the last two seasons. The amount paid out to suppliers for milk was £4220 12s. Mrs D. Sheddan, of Toiro, has just sold her farm (which is one of the best in that district) to Mr H, J. Powell, of Wharetoa, near Clydevnle.
