Everything has been done to make sailors feel “at home’' in the Church of St. Barbara. Whale Island, Portsmouth Harbour, which lately was dedicated by Dr Lovett. Bishop of Portsmouth. , The building has been converted from an ammunition store into a church by shipwrights of H.M.S. Excellent and H.M.S. Sultan. The floor has been laid out on the lines of a caulked deck, the roof also hag a caulked appearance, and above the altar hangs a lamp. On the altar frontal is embroidered the ship of Christ, with the words: "So He bringeth them into the haven where they would, be.” The altar cross is a memorial to Rear-admiral the Hon. Horace Hood, who was killed at the Battle of Jutland. Dignity is the word that best epitomises the Queen. But those who have never semi tier at Court or at the opening of Parliament have never seen the real Queen. With her State robes and her crown or her court dress and her diamonds, she assumes an air of regal austeritv that ig unequalled in the world. The Queen ceases, to the eye of the beholder, to be a woman and becomes the quintessence of monarchy—the living embodiment of the calm dignity of England*
