THE KENT MATCH
HOME TEAM DECLARES AUSTRALIA NONE FOR 66 (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, August 31. (Received Sept. 1, at 1.35 a.m.) Kent declared with two wickets down for 21, presumably being anxious to give the disappointed crowd an opportunity to see the Australians batting. There was also a prospect of the Australians having to battle for runs as hot sunshine followed saturation of the wicket. However, the first half hour’s play suggested that the wicket was too sodden to assist the bowlers, whose foothold was insecure. Ponsford and M'Cabe played them with ease, the former slamming Ashdown for six to square leg. Following are the scores; — KENT. First Innings. Ashdown, c Grimmett, In O’Reilly .. 2 Woolley, c Darling, b FlcetwoodSmitii 18 Todd, not out 1 Total for two wickets (declared) 21 AUSTRALIA. First Innings.
