STATE ADVANCES BOARD
GREATER ACTIVITY PREDICTED. (Flow Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, August 30. Greater activity on the part of the State Advances Board in the next few months was predicted by the Minister of Finance (Air J. G. Coates), replying to a question asked by Air P. Fraser (Wellington Central) in the Imprest Supply debate in the House of Representatives to-night. “The board.” Air Coates said, will be prepared to consider new loans. .Inst what that means I am unable to say.” he added, “other than this, that naturally it will be on an appraised value. Many mortgagor? could raise money at cheaper rates, so 1 would imagine that as time goes on the board will duel it will be necessary to meet this tendency. For that reason it is possible that as months g o by we will see more activity in the State Advances Office than during the last three years The matter has been under dose consideration, but I am expecting before very long that a clear indication will be given of the policy to be followed.” . Mr Coates said he could say nothing about localities, but he supposed that the Investment Board would require to retain its good mortgages.
