The installation of a more # efficient lighting system, for Milton’s'mam street is under’ arrangement between the Borough Council and the Otago Electric Power Board. It is proposed to replace, the present 100-watt street Tights with five lights of 500 watts and the other lights of 200 watts each. . , ’ • - The Milton Women’s Institute has appointed Miss Watt as. its delegate to attend the half-yearly council meeting of the Otago federation of the institutes, to be held at Oamaru in October. The local branch will -also be represented by Mw James Sinclair, a member of the federation executive. ■’v - ■ ' , ~ A proposal is afoot emanating from the Otago Electric Power Board that the Bruce, County Council should install, electric lights at crossroads within the county, similar to those in operation in some’ other counties. The boards secretary '(Mr L. W. Potter) and the engineer (Mr E. D. Veitch) will wait upon the County Conccil- at its next meeting in support of the proposal., : ; . : The local dairy factory will reopen for the. season next Monday, receiving supplies on alternate days in the meantime. During the period the factory was closed for the winter season _a new 25 horsepower multitubular boiler has beep installed, also an automatic stoker. Fifty-seven applications were received by the Milton Borough Council for the position of town clerk, which is being rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr D. M. Mawson, who has .occupied the position since May, 1922. The applicants reside at places from Wairoa to Invercargill, and include registered accountants, lawyers, and town clerks in lesser boroughs, or ' those possessing; municipal clerical experience. -At a special meeting of the council, on , Wednesday nighfe the number was reduced to five applicants. The first consignment of steel pipes (6000 feet) for Milton’s new gravitation water supply scheme arrived, on Wednesday from Wanganui, also the screens land other materials for the head-works at the dam’ at Glen Stream.. Additional consignments will arrive at regular “intervals, and will be storedi in the - railway station yards pending the completion of the dam at the. intake. ’ . ; '
RANFURLY The Ranfurly Miniature Rifle Club held its weekly shoot on; Monday night. There was a : good attendance. . The average score for the first 10 shots was 77.1; The winner of the button for the best shot off the rifle was J. M'Gill, and the handicap button went to A. Petherick.
