AUSTRALIAN TOURING TEAM WIN AGAINST MARLBOROUGH. (Per United Press Association.) BLENHEIM, August 29. Under the best conditions yet experienced on its tour, the Australian hockey team registered its biggest win to date by defeating Marlborough by five goals to nil in brilliant sunshine. The dry ground admirably suited the visitors, who were able to reveal true form, playing exhilarating hockey. The tourists owed their success to superior stick work and a better sense of positional play. Their passing was noteworthy for the economy of strokes, and skilful push shots were a feature. Against such a combination of strategy as the visitors employed, Marlborough was unable to score, but nevertheless maintained a determined resistance in the first spell when the tourists notched four goals. The ability of the home goal-keeper (Andrell) was proved by the fact that though the goal was heavily bombarded he allowed only one further score. Stenning (2), Allen, Milner and Irvine were the scorers.
