ARMED BURGLAR
FOUR YEARS* IMPRISONMENT ROOF-TOP CAPTURE RECALLED (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 27. “If a man who commits a crime by night is found with a loaded firearm, it means that he is prepared to ensure his escape at the risk of the lives of others, and he must expect to receive adequate punishment,” said Mr Justjce Fair today in sentencing Colin William Glass, aged 21, to four years’ imprisonment. Glass was arrested in sensational circumstances on July 31 on the roof of the St, James Theatre, and the revolver he held was discharged during the struggle to arrest him. To-day be appeared for sentence on 12 offences of breaking and entering. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of discharging the revolver at a detective, and the judge said he would exclude that charge from his mind in sentencing him on the other charges. However, any man found with a loaded revolver in such circumstances must be held to have intended to resort to it if the occasion arose.
