BYRD EXPEDITION

AN UNUSUAL HAPPENING EPIDEMIC OF COLDS LITTLE AMERICA, August 26. (Received August 27, at 8.30 p.m.) Admiral Byrd continues to recover slowly, taking daily walks, but for no great distance. With the temperature about 75 degrees below zero the party at the Bolling advance base has not vet seen the sun, which has been visible here over the Ross Sea for five days. On instructions from Admiral Byrd the aeroplane has been made ready to fly to his shack to bring a new group of weather observers and evacuate Admiral Byrd. When the flight will be made depends on the weather. The camp here is suffering a mysterious epidemic of colds, which is unusual in this supposedly germless country. One or two are ill enough, however, to go to bed, but they are recovering.
