The Union Company advises that the Waikbualti will load at Hobart about the third week Ui October for South Island porta.
WAIKOUAITI FROM AUSTRALIA. The Union Company advises that the Walkoualtl, which loaded at Newcastle and Sydney, left the. last-named port at 9 p.m. on Friday with cargo for discharge at Bluff, Dunedin, Tlmaru, Lyttelton and Oamaru. The' freight Includes transhipments ex the Vlminale, Nelloro and Marella, The Walkoualtl Is due at Dunedin on Thursday. AKAROA FOR BLUFF. The Shaw,, Savill and Albion liner Akaroa, after loading frozen meat and other products at Port Chalmers, sailed, yesterday afternoon for Bluff to continue loading, for London. She will complete at northern ports. THE CANADIAN CONSTRUCTOR. The Canadian Constructor, after discharging cargo from Montreal and loading products, left Dunedin yesterday afternoon for Tlmaru and Lyttelton to complete loading for New York, Boston and Montreal. She will sail finally from Lyttelton on Thursday for New York direct. MAUNGANUI AT SAN FRANCISCO. The Union Company's B.M.S. Maunganul, from Sydney and Wellington, arrived at San Francisco on August 24. She will leave the Californian port to-morrow for Papeete, Rarotonga, Wellington and Sydney, and Is due at Wellington on September 17, ' RUABINE AT LONDON. The Buahlne, which left Auckland on July 14 for London, via Panama, arrived at the Home port on the afternoon of August 22. TAMAROA TO LEAVE ENGLAND. The Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Tamaroa Is scheduled to leave London on September 5 and Southampton on. September 6 for Auckland and Wellington. She Is due at Auckland on October 14. WAIKAWA FROM PACIFIC COAST. With cargo from Pacific coast ports the Walkawa was ; scheduled to leave Los Angeles on August 23’ for- Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. ; En route from Los Angeles to Auckland, the vessel will call at Papeete,. Atiu and Rarotonga to load fruit. She Is due at Auckland about September -23. PORT -GISBORNE SAILS. Having discharged the Dunedin portion of her general cargo from London, the Commonwealth and Dominion ’ Line motor ship Port Gisborne sailed yesterday afternoon for Bluff to continue discharge. She will complete at Tlmaru, and will then load at northern ports for London. Captain W. G. Higgs retains command of the Port Gisborne, and has associated with him the following officers: —Chief, Mr H. W. Haslewood; second, Mr B. B. Llnklater; third, Mr A. M'Clounan; fourth, Mr D. A, Watson: chief engineer, Mr D. C. Jack; senior second, Mr V. Potts; junior second, Mr M. M'Dermott; senior third, Mr C. Forman; junior third, Mr L. W, Hall; senior fourth, Mr G, B. Edden; junior fourth, Mr P. Forsyth; assistant engineers, Messrs G. White, R. Watklnson and H. Lawrence: chief refrigerating engineer, Mr H. E. Hutton;- second, Mr C. Thompson; first electrician, Mr B. T. O. Goddard; second, Mr E G. Shaw: wireless operator, Mr D. T. de Witt; chief steward, Mr H. W. Bray. •'[ • NEW. JAPANESE VESSELS. Two of the six cargo motor, vessels building for the’ Nippon Yusen Kalsha have been launched, one, the Nagara Maru, from the Yokohama Dockyard, and the other, the Noto Maru. from the Mitsubishi Dockyard. They are 446 feet In length, with a beam of 62ft 51n, and carry 9000 tons of cargo on a draught of 27ft lin. In the former vessel, a Yokohama 51.A.N. double-acting two-stroke engine will be Installed,, while In the Noto Maru the machinery will be of the Mitsubishi-Sulzer type. Both units will have an output of 6700 b.h.p. at 103 r.p.m. The ships will have a loaded speed of 16 knots. PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain B. Evans has taken command of the Oonah at Melbourne, relieving Captain R. Huntly for holidays. Mr D. ,R. M'Phall, second officer of the Kinl, has come ashore on sick leave at Greymouth, and. Mr D. J. Butler, third officer of the Klnl, has taken his place temporarily. Mr F. J. Cochrane has joined the Kowhal as second officer, relieving Mr F. H. Clark, who goes to the Ngakuta in a similar capacity, relieving Mr D. W, Williams for holidays. Mr J. D. Lundie has joined the Talune as chief officer, relieving Mr M. R. Tregale, who has joined the Walkoualtl as chief officer, Mr W. E. Jones, chief of the Walkoualtl, has transferred to tho Haurakl, relieving Mr Jt E. Warwick for orders. Mr R. K. Craig, chief engineer of the Shaw, SavUl and Albion Company’s liner Akaroa, on her present visit to New Zealand, has had a long and Interesting connection with the company. During the war, Mr Craig was an engineer-lieutenant In the 10th Cruiser Squadron. having previously seen service In the Moldavia and Victorian. At tho end of the war, he joined the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company as third engineer of the Pakeha. His next ship was the ex-German steamer Wahehe. After service In the Waiwera, he was promoted to second engineer of the Malmoa, and for one trip was chief refrigerating engineer. Mr Craig was then promoted to chief engineer, and joined the Mamarl. It was during a Homeward voyage from New Zealand in 1927 that the Mamarl struck an Iceberg and had to put Into Bahia for extensive repairs. The company’s first motor ship, the Zealandlc, was brought out to New Zealand by Mr Craig. For two years he was chief engineer of the Themistocles, and. prior to Joining the Akaroa, he was waiting at Glasgow to take over the Tamaroa.
