CROMWELL The Bannockburn Rugby football team defeated Tarras by six points to five. In the B Grade competition Valley were the winners.. The M'Aughtrie Cup goes to the runners-up, and for this Alexandra, Lowburn, and Wanaka tied on points. In the first play-off on Saturday Lowburn defeated Alexandra B—nil, and will meet Wanaka. The winner of the competition fired by the Railway Rifle Club for a club trophy was W. Webb, with the highest aggregate, the same competitor also taking the gold button on the final shoot. There was a full attendance of officers and firemen at the annual meeting of the Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade. Superintendent J. Hosting’s report disclosed a very satisfactory state of affairs. Six calls were received during the year. Only one of these was of a serious nature, but the , brigade effected a good save. LAWRENCE The annual Rugby football match between the West Otago and South Tuapeka Sub-unions was played on the Lawrence Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon and resulted in a win for West Otago by II points to 3. After the game the teams were entertained at a dinner in the Commercial Hotel. The South Tuapeka Sub-union has decided to hold a seven-a-side tournament at Beaumont on. September 15. WANAKA The annual tournament of the Wanaka Golf Club was held on Friday and Saturday. A dance was held on Saturday evening, when the prizes won during the tournament were presented by the president (Mr J. Rerrow). A. Charles Begg, of the Otago Club, again won the Open Championship with an aggregate of 106 for the two rounds, A. Milne, of Otautau, being a close second with 158. The Mens Central Otago Championship was won by J. Perrow with 166, S. Jenkins -being second with 171. Mrs Paterson, of Cromwell, again won the Open and _ Central Otago Ladies’ Championships with 187, Miss Noel O’Kane, Alexandra, being second with 197. The following are the results:— Friday.—Bogey Handicap: A. Milne (8), 5 down; D. Campbell (16), 8 down.
