Six hundred convicts watched a performance by a party of magicians at Wandsworth Prison, England, recently. Among other items, an English version of the Indian rope trick was shown. The party included Mr Douglas Graggs, who has appeared at a Royal Command Performance at Windsor. Mr Francis White, a member of the Magic Circle, who organised the visit, said in an interview that Wandsworth was the only prison in which magicians were allowed. “In most places,” he said, “ they are afraid the prisoners will learn some tricks from us. This is the third time I have presented magic at Wandsworth. The prisoners were by far the nicest and most appreciative audience I have ever had.”
