She Is due at Auckland on September 17. THE PORT GISBORNE. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line motor ship Port Glsborne Is to sail to-day for Bluff and Timaru. After discharge the vessel will load at Timaru, Oamaru, New Plymouth, Wellington and Auckland. She Is scheduled to return to Auckland on September 17, and on September 19 she Is to be despatched for London, via Cape Horn. WAIMARINO MAKES RECORD. The Union Company's east coast Walmarlno arrived at Lyttelton at 3 o'clock last Thursday afternoon, after a .remarkably fast trip ot '49 hours 30 minutes from Auckland, wharf to wharf. This will easily stand as the record for > any New Zealand coastal vessel. The distance between the two ports Is 675 miles, and the Walmarlno.averaged 13.8 knots. Captain A. H. Prosser, who Is In command, of the vessel, stated that a light head wind was met with until Cape was reached. Nearing Lyttelton Heads mists made visibility very poor, and speed was reduced a little. Had it not been for these two factors the Walmarlno should have made the trip In. 48 hours, as she is capable of steaming-141 knots. MARINE EXAMINATIONS. During the recent term of the Richmond Nautical (Technical) School (Auckland), successful candidates for Marine Department examinations were as follow: —Mr J. A. Moloney, compass syllabus; Mr C. E. Gibson, chief engineer in the Shaw, Savlll and Albion Line, is at present acting as supervisor In the construction of the company's new vessels at Belfast. Ferguson, who was chief - engineer of the Talnul on her last visit to Lyttelton, has been transferred to the Tamaroa to replace Mr J. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line advises that the Port Hobart will . commence loading at Timaru on September 7; and complete at Lyttelton, Glsborne, Tokomaru Bay, Napier and Wellington. The Federal Company advises that the Tekoa will commence loading during discharge at Port Chalmers on September 8, and will complete at Lyttelton,. New Plymouth, Wellington, Napier, Glsborne and Auckland. She is to leave Auckland on-October 4 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Rotorua will commence loading during discharge at. Napier on September 29, and complete at Wellington and Auckland. She will leave Auckland on October 12 for London, via the Panama.canal. The Remuera will commence loading during discharge at Bluff on October 10, and complete at Wellington and'Auckland. She will leave Auckland on October 23 for London, via the Panama canal. The Shaw, Savlll and Albion Company advises that the Fordsdale .will commence Homeward loading during discharge at Port Chalmers on September 10. She will complete at Bluff, Timaru, Wanganui, New Plymouth and Auckland, clearing the northern port finally on October .6 for London, via the Panama canal.

The Talnul will commence loading at Opua on October 4, and complete at New Plymouth, Wellington and Auckland. She Is to clear Auckland finally on October 17 for Southampton and London, via the Panama canal and Kingston.

ALTERATIONS TO TAMAROA. Extensive alterations and Improvements are at present being made to the passenger accommodation In the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner 'Tamaroa, at Glasgow. These include the provision of 24 additional single-berth cabins. Cabins' have been built in the space formerly occupied by the veranda cafe, which has been moved to the boat deck, A sun-deck has been built above the boat-deek, similar to that •on the company's liner Akaroa. The lounge has been extended and an additional drawing - :room built on the forward part of " B " deck. A gymnasium, similar to that on the Akaroa, is being added tp the vessel's attractions. ... ■ The Tamaroa is to sail, from Liverpool on September 7 for New Zealand.
