MANCHESTER UNITY
There was a very good attendance of members and visiting brethren at the fortnightly meeting Loyal Albion Lodge held in the M.U. Hall, Stuart street, on Thursday evening, L. A. Joseph presiding. The P.G.M., P.D.G.M. Bro. J. D. Cameron, waß a visitor. A motion of sympathy was carried with Bro. Slemint in the death ot his wife. The secretary of Loyal Oamaru Lodge wrote forwarding particulars of accommodation available for delegates to the half-yearly meeting of delegates at Oamaru on September 28 and 29. He' also outlined functions in connection with the meeting which included a social, and dance on September 28, a social on September 29. and a church parade on Sunday, September 30. to be followed by a trip to Waitaki Hydro in the afternoon. To these functions all delegates were invited. The district organiser, Bro. Cameron, wrote forwarding - bus arrangements for an'official visit to the Outran* Lodge on September 3. A number of members were declared on the sick funds, and the reports of the sick _ visitors showed the number on the sick list to be above the average. The delegates to the M.U. Ball Committee were notified of the final meeting of this committee. Two new members were initiated; and one proposition for membership was received. Nominations for delegates to the district meeting were received and adjourned till next lodge night, when the delegates will be elected. Following the conclusion of business matters, the meeting adjourned and a card evening was held, this taking the form of trump whist. Prize-winners were Bro. Scott (Centenary) 1,, Bro. Penny 2. A vote of thanks to the hosts (P.G.'s Bros. W. Longworth, L. Broadfoot, and H. Alpine) brought an enjoyable evening to a close. ' _ - N.G. Bio. L. A. Henderson presided over a large attendance at the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Roxburgh Lodge held on August 21. Satisfactory progress is being made with the membership of the lodge, one new member _ being initiated, making four since the beginning of the term. The appointment of delegates to represent the lodge at the halfyearly meeing of the.district was held over until a later meeting. It was decided to insert the photograph of P.G. Bro. Richard George in this year's official handbook. At the conclusion of business, members indulged in community singing. It was decided to hold a debate in September, the following leading, speakers being appointed:—-Affirmative, Bros. Waigth and MacPhail;. nagative, Bros. W. J. Henderson and L. A. Henderson. The subject selected, is "That for the purpose of augmenting the reduced maternity bonus of those members joining since April, 1931, a small levy be made on all single members." In October a mock court will be held between the lodge and Court Roxburgh, A.O.F.
The Loyal Caversham Lodge held its fortnightly meeting on ■ Wednesday evening in the Lodge Hall, Forbury corner. N.G. Bro. J. Adam presided and welcomed a good muster of members. Some time was. occupied in dealing with correspondence, which included a notification of a meeting of the Ball Committee. The Loyal Timaru Lodge wrote thanking the lodge for its expressions of sympathy on the death of Permanent Secretary Bio. A. Gcodall. Members were advised of arrangements made by the district organiser for the official visit to the Outram Lodge on September 3. Two new members were, initiated and one member was granted a letter of recommendation to the Auckland district. Durit-g the recess' members were privileged to hear P.P.G.M. Bro. iT. G. Clarke read two letters received from Bro. A. Sligo, district treasurer, describing his voyage to the Old Country. The account proved very interesting, and Bro. Clarke was thanked for his reading. The lodge de-. cided to forward two remits-for inclusion in the order paper for the forthcoming district meeting. The N\G. reported that the lodge had won the Card Shield from Unity (1.0.0. F.) Lodge, and thanked members for the good muster at the latter lodge's hall. The visitors were welcomed by N.G. Bro. Gillespie, of the Unity Lodge, who said that the half-yearly card evenings were looked forward to by both lodges. It was deeded to hold a dance next lodge night. Lodses respondint to the visitors' toast were:—-Loyal Albion, Prince of Wales, and Hand and Heart.
