. . RUGBY, August 18. .. The subject of Germany's outstanding commercial debts due to Lancashire cotton exporters was .considered by a meeting pi the European Executive Commit'tee/of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce,' which decided that the chamber should continue to press upon the Government the urgency of, securing an early settlement, and that a careful watch be kept on developments following the intergovernmental negotiations at present proceeding in Berlin. Meanwhile Lancashire has refused to send any. more yarn to Germany until a settlement is reached. It is understood that the outstanding debts to Lancashire for yarn supplied to Germany amount to about £500,000.
The chamber has meanwhile .invited the views of its members as to any difficulties anticipated in connection with the actual operation of the scheme for financing future trade with Germany, which was provided for in the agreement signed last week and comes into operation on Monday.
