The first lecture of the 1034 series under the auspices of the Insurance Institute and Officers’ Guild of New Zealand was held in the Underwriters’ Association's rooms, High street, on Monday evening, before a large attendance of members. The lecturer for the evening was Mr J. S. Little, F.P.A. (N.Z.), who chose for his subject “ Difficulties following defective proposal drawing, importance of valuations, etc.’’ Mr Little enlightened his audience on many points of importance to the insurance profession! At the close of the address (lie chairman (Mr J. A. Allen) moved a vote of thanks to (he lecturer, who expressed himself willing at all times to assist the institute to the host of his ability. At a well-attended meeting of Anderson’s Bay residents bold on Monday evening it was decided to inaugurate a school ipiren carnival to raise funds to improve the school grounds. It. is proposed to hold the carnival during the first school term of next year and to conclude a three days’ carnival at the end of the term. An energetic committee was appointed to make necessary arrangements, Messrs 1!. M’Garrigle and G. C. Gordon being appointed joint secretaries.
