DISPOSAL OF THE PROFITS MAJOR PORTION TO CHARITY. (From Oub Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 31. Four hundred and eighty-six licenses for raffles were issued by the Department of Internal Affairs during the year ended March 31 last, states the annual departmental report, which was tabled in the House of Representatives to-day. Of these, 406 were for works of art, 63 for small amounts of alluvial gold, and seven for alluvial gold to the value of £4OOO. The seven large alluvial gold art unions returned an aggregate net profit of £64,059 after making provision for lottery duty of £14,944. The gross sales were £149,365, the commission on sales was £22,404, the expenses were £19,964, and the prizes accounted for £28,000.
Of the net profits, £34,500 wag distributccl to relief funds, and £13,300 was paid to a number of organisations rendering social relief in some form or other, while the balance was allocated to various bodies carrying on services of community value.
