ALLEGED BURGLARY

HEAVY LOSS OF JEWELLERY LABOURER BEFORE THE COURT. (Peb United Press association.) AUCKLAND, July 30. Following the burglary on July 4 at Mrs I. E. Sweetapple's house, in Newmarket, Sydney George Ross, aged 24, a labourer, was committed for trial today on a charge of breaking and entering the house and stealing gold cups and a large quantity of jewellery, valued at £679. Evidence was given that the accused sold to a gold buyer a quantity of broken-up gold and received £lO in cash and a cheque for £2l 18s. The cheque was later stopped. The accused told the police that he got the gold from another man. He denied breaking into the house, but said he could get some of the stolen goods returned. Following this, the police received a parcel containing some of the stolen jewellery. . The accused was refused bail.
