Mr G. T. Baxter Wilson left by the express on Saturday morning en route to Wellington. Mr J. L. Napier returned to Dunedin from Wellington on Friday evening. The director of the Division of Dental Hygiene (Mr J. L. Saunders) left by the express on Saturday morning on his return to Wellington, Lady Sidey, Mrs Joseph M'George, and Mrs Donald Reid left Dunedin on Saturday morning en route for Wellington on business connected with the Pluuket Society. Dr P. C. Fenwick, C.M.G., Christchurch, has been elected a fellow of the Royal Empire Society. Mr A. J. Crisp, late of the advertising staff of the Dominion, Wellington, has been appointed manager of the Plaza Theatre, Christchurch, by the J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation, Ltd. A Press Association cable message from Perth states that Sir Hubert Wilkins, the Polar explorer, who arrived at Broome from Java on Tuesday, announced that he would leave Sydney for New Zealand on August 4. He hopes that the Antarctic expedition will be ready by the first week in September. Mr Robert K. Burns, an economics student of the University of Washington, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa on Satuday to take part in debating contests with students of the New Zealand universities. His companion debater, Mr Lyle M. Spencer, remained in Sydney where he recently underwent an operation. A Press Association message from Nelson states that the funeral of Father O’Connell, which was preceded by Requiem Mass, was very largely attended, all sections of the community being represented. Archbishop O’Shea conducted the service at the graveside. Thirty priests from various parts of the Dominion attended the funeral. A public presentation, representative of the whole of the West Coast, was made at Greymonth on Friday afternoon to Mr W. Meld rum, who recently retired from the magistracy. The presentation of a wallet of notes was made by the Mayor of Greymonth. Mr J. W. Greenslade. The opportunity was taken to welcome officially Mr H. Morgan, S.M., his successor.
