The former passenger steamer Nikau has been lowed from Wellington to Nelson. The Nikau will be converted into a motor ship and will be used in the coastal cargo trade. The Union Company’s Karotu left Rarotonga last Saturday evening with fruit for Auckla.nd, where she Is due to-day. The Matal has been held up at Stewart Island on account of bad weather. She Is still expected to leave Bluff on Monday evening next for West Coast lights and Wellington. The motor ship Brisbane Maru, en route from Japan, Is to leave Hobart on August 2 for Wellington. She, is duo there on August 8, and will leave again the following day for Auckland. The vessel will load scrap Iron at Auckland, and will leave there on August 13’for Sydney, Brisbane and Japan. The motor ship Orari, completing her Homeward loading at Auckland, Is scheduled to clear the northern port finally to-day for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow, via Cape Horn. After loading stores and replenishing her oil fuel bunkers, the steamer Triona sailed from Auckland on July 21 for Ocean Island and Nauru Island. The American steamer Golden State is scheduled to leave San Francisco on July 30 and Los Angeles on August 1 with cargo for Auckland. Wellington and Australia. She is due at Auckland about August 27. Transhipments cx the following vessels were brought to Wellington on Tuesday by the Marama from Sydney For Wellington : Nieuw Zeeland, Orungal, Hatarana, Talune, Koranul, Antcn Chltral, Katoomba, Dimboola, Kowarra, Atsuta Maru, Sydney Maru, Narkunda, Esqullino, Orsova, Aachen, Tanda, Changte, Nankin and Bendigo. Storm, which arrived at Dunedin yesterday morning from Bluff, is loading for Tlmaru and Lyttelton, Wellington, Wanganui and New Plymouth. Gale Is due at Dunedin to-day from Wellington, and is timed to sail this evening for Oamaru, Tlmaru and Lyttelton to complete loading for Wellington, Plcton and Wanganui. Holmdale Is due at Dunedin on Monday from Wellington, and will sail the same day for Wellington, Plcton and Wanganui, via ports. Breeze has been fixed to load at Dunedin on Tuesday for Tlmaru. Lyttelton, Wellington, Plcton, Wanganui and New Plymouth. WTngatul is to leave Auckland to-day for Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She Is due at this port on August) 2. Port Whangarel, which arrived last night from northern ports, is timed to sail to-day for Tlmaru, Lyttelton and Wellington to complete loading for Tauranga, Auckland and Whangarel. OLIVEBANK FOR QUEENSLAND. The Bank Line’s motor ship Ollvebank, having discharged a cargo of phosphates from Nauru Island, sailed yesterday morning for Cairns (Queensland) to load raw sugar for the east coast of Canada. FISCUS DUE TO-MORROW 7 . Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co. advise that the steamer Fiscus, with sulphur from Italy, left New Plymouth at 5 p.m. on Wednesday for this port. She Is due to-morrow morning and will berth at the Ravcnsbourne wharf to discharge. WAIKOUAITI LEAVES HOBART. Advice received by the Union Company states that tho Walkoualtl, which loaded at Newcastle, Sydney, Port Kembla and Hobart, left the last-named port at 2 a.m. yesterday for Bluff, Dunedin, Tlmaru and Lyttelton. She Is due at Dunedin on Tuesday. , - ( —— PORT FAIRY AT SUVA. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line’s motor ship Port Fairy arrived at Suva on Tuesday from London. She was expected to sail yesterday for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Oamaru to complete discharge. The vessel Is due at this port about August 2. THE CANADIAN VICTOR. Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co. advise that the Canadian Victor, from Montreal, via Australian ports and Bluff, Is due at Dunedin on August 3 to discharge Canadian cargo and load products. She win sail on August 4 for Timarti and Lyttelton to complete loading, and will sail from Lyttelton about August 8 for New York, Boston and Montreal. RANGITATA FOR NEW ZEALAND. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s motor liner Rangltata was to leave London yesterday with passengers and mall for New Zealand, and cr.rgo for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. She Is due at Wellington on August 29. PORT SYDNEY AT LONDON. Cabled advice has been received that the C. and D. Line steamer Port Sydney reached London on July 22 from New Zealand. She left Wellington on, June 7 for London. Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow, via Cape Horn. HOMEWARD BOUND. The Shaw, Savlll liner lonic left Wellington on Wednesday morning for Southampton and London, via the Panama canal and Kingston. After completion of her Homeward loading the Hororata left Tokomaru Bay at 9 a.m. on Tuesday for London and west coast ports of the United Kingdom; via Panama. MARIPOSA AND MONTEREY. Tho Oceanic Company’s liner Mariposa, from Melbourne, left Sydney on Wednesday for Auckland, where she Is due to-morrow morning. She will leave Auckland the same day for Suva, Pago Pago, Honolulu and Los Angeles. The Oceanic Company’s liner Monterey was to leave Los Angeles on Wednesday for Honolulu, Pago Pago, Suva, Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne. She Is due at Auckland on August 10. PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain A. H. Prosser lias taken command of the Walmarino, relieving Captain R. M. Kane, who has returned to Wellington for Instructions. Captain W. Johnson lias resumed command of the tug Terawhlti, after holidays, relieving Captain P. E. Ryan, who Is now on holiday leave. Mr J. Dillingham has joined the Niagara as senior third officer, relieving Mr A. J. M’Kenzle, who Is proceeding to Sydney on holiday leave. Mr H. F. Ferguson has joined the Maunganui as purser. SYDNEY’S SHIPPING TONNAGE. The tonnage of vessels to pass through tho Sydney Heads during the year ended Juno 30, 1934, totalled 9,471,324 tons. Of that tonnage, 6.028,716 represented overseas ships, 2,025,329 Interstate ships, and 1,419,279 coastal. An indication of improving trade is shown in the increase of 33,557 tons over last year, representing 323 more vessels. During the year 59 fewer outgoing pilots were engaged and 55 fewer Inward pilots.
