THE CABINET

MR HAMILTON'S ILLNESS PORTFOLIOS REARRANGED (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 25. Mr J. A. Young, Minister of Internal Affairs and Minister of Health, will take charge of unemployment administration while the Minister of Employment (Mr A. Hamilton) undergoes a period of rest necessitated by his illness. Mr J. Bitchener, Minister of Public Works, will look after Mr Hamilton's portfolio of Labour. This arrangement was reached early this morning. After the Ministers concerned had conferred with the Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) and the Minister of Finance (Mr Coates). Mr Hamilton intends to leave for the south to-morrow and will return to Wellington in a week's time to rest. During his absence from the House he will continue to act as Postmaster-general and Minister in Charge of Tourist Resorts and Publicity. He hopes to be able to watch over the business of these departments without running a risk of endangering his health. Mr Young said in an interview tonight that the unemployment policy initiated by Mr Hamilton would be adhered to while he was in charge. He indicated that he himself favoured some reduction in unemployment taxation, and that his best efforts would be directed towards such action before the end of the present session.
