TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Some little time ago a paragraph appeared in your daily paper headed “ Government Protection for an Industry.” Mr Goghill claims to have secured Government protection for a mill to be started at Mataura for making woolpacks and cornsacks. Are you in a position to inform me if that statement is correct?—l am, etc.. Interested.

[The promoter of the enterprise has been told that in the event of the establishment in the near future of an industry for producing cornsacks, woolpacks, and hemp piece goods of satisfactory qualities and in satisfactory quantities and selling them at reasonable prices, the Government will impose dumping duty on . any cornsacks,. woolpacks, or hemp piece goods imported into New Zealand within five years from the establishment of the industry in the Dominion with respect to which it can Be shown that the provisions of the Customs Act, are contravened. — Ed.
