EASTERN DISTRICTS FOOTBALL
." TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Having read in this morning's paper that the Eastern Districts Subunion Had reinstated J. Barber after his case had been placed in the hands of the Otago Union and remitted from that union to the New Zealand Rugby Union, I would like to ask if the sub-union hag the power to take the matter out of the hands of the New Zealand Union and reinstate the player mentioned, or is it because it sees the mistake it made in ever making a case of this player, who, I personally think,. should never havs been brought before the sub-union to be dealt with, or is it because he is a player who is handy now that the annual representative matches are approaching? The Eastern Districts Sub-union could do with a few more experienced members on its committee who understand the rules of Rugby football and would be unlikely to do anything for which m they would afterwards be sorry. I would also like to mention the very unfair treatment to one of the junior players now that the representative team has been selected. R. King, of the Waitati team, is without doubt one of the most promising junior forwards playing this season, and has that reputation in the district to which he belongs. This season the Waitati Club has a clear lead for the banner, and it is the Waitati forwards who are to be thanked for placing the club so high up the ladder, yet there is only one of them in the representative team. Paterson is another player, who should have received some consideration.— I am, etc., Supporter. Waitati, June 19.
