SCOUT NOTES
By Scouteb.
After discussion the executive has decided to withdraw the Peace Flag and hang ifc in metropolitan headquarters. A cup has been presented to the movement, known as the district commissioners' cup. It will be awarded annually to the group gaining the highest aggregate of marks in the following:—Religious attendance, hobbies, show, district commissioner's aunual inspections, swimming competition, pioneering competition, ambulance competition, athletic competition, football competition, tenderfoot and tenderpad, eecoud class and first star, first-class estimates, tng-of-war, and Scout notes reports. The religious attendances section will commence in July, and cards will be eeut to Scouters before the commencement of that competition.
Owing to tbe resignation of District Commissioner W. D. Pirrett changes in the district staff have taken place, r and the following is tbe new staff:—Southern district: Commissioner, A. M'Callum; district scoutmaster, A. S. Murie; district cubmaster, R. Watt. Northern district: Commissioner, S. Thomas; district scoutmaster, W. Gray; district, cubmaster, J. Livingstone. The executive meets ou Monday, June 25, at 7.15 p.m. The tug-of-war contest for the " St. George Cup " is causing much activity in I the various troops. There is* every indication that a most interesting, competi- : tion will be witnessed when the contest- | ante meet each other in July. The Chris- [ tian Brothers troop are to be commended for tbe excellent way they are making all the necessary arrangements, and from the keenness they are showing other troops will have to be right on the job to wrest the cup from them. The secretary of the Christian Brothers troop advises that teams are to consist only of bona fide Scouts, who must be under the age of 18 at the time of the closing of the entries. No person holding a warrant 4 may compete. Points, as intimated elsewhere m this column, will count for the District Commissioner's Cup. Entries close with Mr P. J. Wilson, care Messrs Wright, Stephenson/* and Co., Ltd., on June 25. Tbe contest itself is to be held at the Lyceum Hall, King street, on July 10 and 11. The admission.charges are sixpence each night/but Scouts in uniform will be admitted for threepence. . ' In another few months our annual hobbies show will be held, and although last year's entries were excellent, it is hoped that this year's effort will be a greater success. A wider scope is being given to the Cubs, and it is anticipated thai record entries will be received m this part. The Cubs of Dunedin seem to be proficient in the art of making sweets, and so accordingly a new section has been made to cater for these boys. The knitting section is much the same as last year, and no doubt boys will be spending many of these wintry evenings knitting different articles. The cubnjasters asked that a section be put in for their boys who were keen on making models, and an excellent section has been made out for this class. In a few weeks the schedules will be out, and boys will be able to see what they will be able to enter, and it is our earnftst hope that the wish of the executive be fulfilled—namely, that the aim be for every boy to put .in at least one entry. Hobbies and handicrafts are taking up more of the time of the average boy than before, and it is one of the aims ,of the movement to de-, velop the spare-time activities of the boys. The Hobbies Show will show how iar that j ideal is, or is not, being exploited. '
