The Baunockburn branch of the W.D.F.U. met on Tuesday night in the hall. Mrs Ritchie spoke on her visit to the annual conference held during Show Week. Mrs Smith demonstrated a wool mat made from a black sheep's fleece, and Mrs Ritchie a cushion and bag worked in Berlin woo! on canvas. * tf * The' Clinton branch met last Friday in the Oddfellows' Hall, when Miss Roy (president) presided. Miss Roy and Mrs Melton gave a report on the Otago Provincial Conference. Mr Cousins, Government poultry expert, then gave a lecture on the rearing of poultry. Hostesses were Mesdames Clark and Melton. * . * * At the June meeting of the Milton branch Miss Leslie presided. A demonstration on " Spinning" was given by Mrs Spence with a display of articles made from ordinary t wool. The hostesses were the Misses Leslie and Inglis.

The Clutha branch held its June meeting in the Balclutha Borough Council Chambers.' Mrs Crawford Anderson (president) and Mrs A. A. Jensen (secretary), who were the branch delegates to the Otago Provincial Conference, gave an account of the proceedings and discussions. The roll call was " My Fa\-ourite Quotation." Hostesses were Mrs W. H. Willocks and Miss J. Johnston. The branch recently gave two guineas to the Balclutha Women's Rest House. •

The Owaka Valley branch met on June 13. The men of the Farmers' Union also attended a combined meeting. The roll call was "A Verse of Poetry You Learnt at School." The senior competition, " A Loaf of Bread," was judged by the men, and resulted in Mesdames Capon, A. Roger, and Miller being placed first (equal). The men also judged the junior competition, which was " A Plate of Biscuits," Miss P. M'Gimpsey being first. Mrs J. Morris gave a description of the conference and Mr R. Warnock contributed an interesting talk.

The Clydevale branch met in the hall last Friday evening, when Mrs Kee presided. The delegates reported on the annual provincial conference. The competition, " Something from two skeins of wool," was won by Mrs King, sen., with a daintv tea cosy. The roll call was, " Pudding Recipes." The Farmers' Union later joined the branch, Mr Butler and Mrs M'Cleary winning a local name competition.

The Livingstone branch met at Mrs Clarke's residence, the president (Mrs Hutton) presiding. A motion of sympathy was passed with the president and her family in their recent sad loss. The roll call was, " Miscellaneous Suggestions." Mrs Clarke gave a demonstration on " The making of Puff Pastry." " Something made from one stocking" was the competition, the exhibits belonging to Mesdames Meikle, Blanchard, and W. Barnes being judged first, second, and third respectively. ' The hostesses were Mrs Clarke and Miss M. Blanchard.

A very pleasant evening was spent at Miller's Flat on June 13 when the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union met to discuss business and enjoy a social hour. Mrs Stockdill and Mrs Tophani arranged the programme. Some very fine competitions were held, much to the delight of those present. Although the night was cold, one competition in particular kept the noses of all members pretty hot. Mrs T. Jones was hostess. Afterwards the ladies combined with the Farmers' Union for supper.

A successful evening was held at Merton last Friday, the occasion being the first birthday gathering of the local branch. Miss Kenyon (president) welcomed the visitors. Mrs Lee ahd Mr Crawford returned thanks for the Waikouaiti and Warrington branches respectively. Mr Blomfiefd. in the absence of Mr A. C. Cameron, {rave a talk on the aims and objects of the Young Farmers' League. A short programme followed: — Pianoforte solos, Miss A. Penno; duets, Mr and Mrs Penno, and Mr Penno and Mr Williams; dialogue, Mrs R. Hutton and Miss M'Laren; songs, Mr Williams; humorous play, three Warrington members (Misses Jenkins and Miss Devlin); songs at the piano, Mr Struthers. Mr H. Herd carried out the duties of chairman, and was also M.C. for an enjoyable dance which followed. Miss D. Black and Mr H. Scott won a lucky spot waltz.
