OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD

COMMITTEE REPORTS The following is a summary of the reports of the various committees which will be presented at the monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board next Thursday night:— The Benevolent Committee will report having dealt with 23 cases for relief at a weekly cost of £l7 Os 6d. Casual cases for relief amounting to £SOO 4s 8d have been approved. Twenty-one men received 106 days' work at the board's institutions at a total cost of £66 ss. During'the past month seven persons have been admitted to, five discharged from, and three deaths have occurred at the Talbpys Home and infirmary ward. One hundred and thirty-six inmates remain.

The Hospital Committee will recommend that ministerial approval having been received, authority be granted to accept a quotation for the supply of Victor model X-ray table that a LevyWest fluorescent screen be obtained instead of the Patterson screen quoted in the estimate, and that a Lysholm grid be procured. The committee will report that the honorary medical staff reports having discussed the proposed cure for cancer by Mr Joseph Bulte and recommends that the matter receive no further consideration. The committee will further report that arrangements have been made, through the architects, for the contractor (Mr Naylor) to level up and repair the posts on Jubilee balcony. The quotation from Messrs Donald Stuart, Ltd., for covering the balconies of Houghton and Jubilee Wards with Anderson and Sons five-ply British Floor "Rok" has been accepted. Instructions have been given for heating of the balcony of Miller Ward. Tho Finance Committee will report that the Director-general of Health has advised that the department is in accordance with the board's proposal to add a nurses' room to the Roxburgh Hospital, and approves of the expenditure of £lO5 for its erection.
