OBITUARY

MR CLYDE MEYNELL THEATRICAL MANAGER. LONDON, June 19. The death is announced of Mr Clyde Meynell, the well-known theatrical manager, aged 67. Mr Clyde Meynell, who was born in 1867, was intended for the medical profession, and practised as a physician and surgeon. He made his first appearance on the stage in 1886. He left the stage in 1889, and qualified as a doctor at Edinburgh. He rejoined the theatrical profession in 1895, when in partnership with Mr Horace Lingard ho managed a tour of “ A Man’s Shadow” in the English provinces. He was engaged by Sir Herbert Tree in 1901, and was appointed general manager of the company which Sir Herbert Tree sent to Australia under the management of J. C. Williamson. He remained in, Australia, and entered into partnership with the late Mr John Gunn. Sir Rupert Clarke later joined the firm, which subsequently amalgamated with J. C. Williamson, and Mr Meynell was appointed managing director of J. C. Williamson, Ltd.
