The Graziers’ Federal Council has decided to ask the Commonwealth Government to negotiate an' agreement with the Soviet Government ensuring the exchange of wool and meat for oil.

The Herald’s Melbourne representative eays: “Mr Lyons informed the Loan Council that the Commonwealth Government had decided to make £2,000,000 available for the States in the coming financial year in the hope that they would use it to increase employment, especially of boys.” PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES. RESTORATION OF CUTS. SYDNEY, June 19. It is regarded as probable that the New South Wales Government will now be able to reduce the railway freights for wheat and other primary products, and restore the salary cuts to at least the lower paid members of the public service. THE FRUIT EMBARGO. QUESTION OF RELAXATION. CANBERRA, June 19, (Received June 19, at ll p.m.) A conference began to-day between the New Zealand mycologist, Dr Cunningham, and Federal and State agricultural and quarantine experts, involving the question of the relaxation of embargoes and restrictions on fruit and vegetables between Australia and New Zealand. THE WAGGA WAGGA MURDER. TRIAL OF MRS ANDERSON.

SYDNEY, June 19 (Received June 20, at 0.30 a.m.)

At the Criminal Court to-day Mrs Lilian Anderson was on trial for the murder of her husband. The jury was unable to agree and was locked up for the night. Mrs Anderson in the course of her defence startled the court by declaring that her late husband told her he murdered Percy Smith, for which Edward Morey was convicted and sentenced to death. She also denied murdering her husband, but added; “If I shot him it must have been an accident.”

Edward Morey, who was brought from the gaol, declared that ho did not know Mrs Anderson and had never seen her in his life. The Crown Prosecutor described Mrs Anderson’s defence as cowardly and an insult to the intelligence of the jury.

A previous message read as follows; — At the inquiry at Wagga Wagga into the death of Moncrieff Anderson, who was shot in the head, the coroner returned a verdict that Anderson was murdered, and committed his widow for trial on a charge of .murder. The police produced evidence that Mrs Anderson, unknown to her late husband, carried on correspondence with Edward Morey, who was recently sentenced to death for the murder of Percy Smith. Letters were also written by Morey from gaol to the accused woman. Auderson was a Crown witness against Morey. STATE LOTTERY PROFITS. ‘ A CONSIDERABLE DECREASE. SYDNEY. June 19. (Received June 19, at 11.50 p.m.) The profits of the State lottery for the past 12 months were £702,000. The sales of tickets have fallen off by £500,000 during the past three months, due to severe competition from the Queensland lottery.
