“THE DOVER ROAD”

There is a very large section of the people of Dunedin who have an appreciation for the best in dramatic entertainment, and these will anticipate with pleasure the opening night of the next amateur performance in His Majesty’s Theatre. This is A. A. Milne s “ the Dover Road,’’ which is being produced by Miss Bessie Thomson for the University Dramatic Society, and will commence a season of three nights to-morrow night. The actors arc all University students, whose talent has been convincingly proved in last year’s presentation of “ Rope." “The Dover Road” follows the capping tradition of providing comedy, but whereas the capping comedy is exclusively homemade, in this performance it is from the pen of one who is excelled in the creation of humour by few, if any. contemporary playwrights. The humour and wit of the 'dialogue are characteristically gentle throughout, the characterisation remarkable for its whimsical portrayal of human nature, and the theme showing an undercurrent of serious thought beneath the light treatment. The, principals in the cast are as follows:—Anne. Miss Isobel Xewlands; Eurasia, Miss Margot Garrett; Latimer, Mr Lester Moller;

Dominic, Mr Bruce McKenzie; Leonard, Ml- Russell Napier; Nicholas, Mr Wyvern de Clive Lowe.
