TROTTING NOTES
By Sentinel. The Trotting Stud Book, Volume X, will be on issue this week. Anyone with more than a superficial interest in breeding will welcome its appearance, as it is the fingerpost to success as well as what to avoid in nou-successful lines. They were not far astray when going for Subsidy in the Winchester Trot. He went 2miu 57sec from a 3min 7sec mark on a slow track, but his form in the Sapling Stakes pointed to him being entitled to a short-priced favouritism. Harold Logan is enjoying a well-de-served spell, but will be kept in healthy exercise in the event of him being taken over for an Australian campaign in the spring of next season. We are now experiencing a dead period of the racing season. There is little or no black dates on the calendar, but Ashburton and Oamaru will help to bridge things to the Wellington winter meeting, and then the bell will clang for jthe opening of the Grand National meeting. Insolvent has speed, but doeg not seem inclined to carry it too far. _ He went well for about a mile at Titnaru, but then he appeared to develop a mishit in hobbles, and faded out oC the picture. The following is taken from the “ Horseman and Fair World” (Indianapolis) of May 23: —Mr and Mrs J. R. MTvenzie, of Christchurch, New Zealand, who have been spending a week here, left this morning for New York. Before leaving, Mr M'Kenzie purchased from Colonel Henry M. Bosworth the two-year-old trotting filly Fair Warning, by Mr M’Elwyn Imm 59jsec, out of Molly Warping 2min l&sec, by Peter Chenault 2min 4sec, second dam Molly . Knight, 2,2 min Cisec (dam of Pola M'Elwyn 2min 6)sec, etc.), by General Watts. 2min 6|sce. Fair Warning is a full-sister to last season’s good trotting mare, Mary M’Elwyn 2inin 3Jsec, and to Lemac, a highly regarded green trotter in the Ben White stable. Fair W 7 arning does not have to rely on her relations, for she has shown Dick Curtis with the limited handling she-has received that she is a high-class, trotter. She recently trotted a mile in 2min 224 sec, half in Imin 7Asec, quarter in 32|sec. She has been a mile in 2min 24sec. quarter in 312 sec. and has been an eighth in 14i|see.. The filly is to be turned out at the Bosworth farm until ready for shipment to New Zealand, which will probably be this fall. Mr McKenzie is a member of the New Zealand Trotting Association, which meets monthly for the conduct of trotting. It is composed of nine members. ■ The Trotting Conference meets yearly, makes rules, etc. It is composed of a representative from every club in New Zealand, and is affiliated with Australia, and recognises each others penalties. He is a friend of Mr S. W. Kelly, of Wellington, New Zealand, who visited this country in .1931 and bought Fantime by Guy Abbey out of Olive Fant, 2min Clsec, a sister to Molly Knight, 2min QJsec. etc! This filly, is still 'at the Bosworth Farm, and will be shipped with Fair Warning.' Mr Kelly-is also a member of the New Zealand Trotting Associaand is the owner of David M’Elwyn, bought from’ the late Henry M. Jones.” ASHBURTON ACCEPTANCES (Pee United Press Association.) i ASHBURTON, June 19.
