(Feb United Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, June 8. Advice has been received that the second prize of £4OOO in the Golden Casket Queensland State lottery- grand centenary, No. 2, has gone to Opotiki. Within the next three months tenders will be called by the'Commercial Bank of Australia for the erection of a new building on Lambton quay, Wellington, replacing its present premises, which were erected in 1878. WESTPORT, June 8.
The Supreme Court was occupied today in the hearing of a charge against Leslie Bernard Pitcher, aged 23, of assaulting William Shorrock with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The case was the eequel to an episode on February 28, when the accused slashed Shorrock with a razor. The defence claimed that a gang of youths victimised Pitcher, who retaliated. After a retirement of three and three-quarter hours the iury returned a verdict of not guilty. CHRISTCHURCH, June 8. A street collection in aid of the city bands to-day realised £307 13s Bd. ASHBURTQN, June 8.
At the Police Court Richard Harrison was fined £7 10s and costs (£3 16s) for stroke-hauling trout at he mouth of the RaUaia River on March 2 and was convicted and ordered to pay 12s costs for using a rod other than that provided under the regulations. He was acquitted on a charge of having resisted the ranger in the execution of his duty.
