HIGH SCHOOLS' GOVERNORS
PARENTS' REPRESENTATIVE •MR J. C. H. SOMERVILLE "ELECTED. The counting of the votes registered in connection with the election to the High Schools' Board of Governors of a representative of the parents of pupils attending the Boys' and Girls' High Schools, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of Mr J. C. Stephens, was completed yesterday by the returning officer (Mr C. R. M'Lean). There were two candidates, Mrs G. W. Rekl and Mr J. C. H. Somerville, Mr Somerville being elected by a majority of 438 votes. Only 1161, or approximately 50 per cent., of the, 2250 parents eligible to- vote exercised their privilege, and of the votes polled 30 were informal. Mr Somerville will hold office until July 31, 1935/ Following is the result of the voting:— Somerville, James Cleland Hall .. (593 Reid, Constance Taiaroa '.'." ■. 438 Informal .' 30 Great Britain had a record number of foreign visitors last year, the figure being 186,370, as compared with 181,147 in 1032.
