RADIO BROADCASTING
"FRIENDLY ROAD" SERVICES PROBABLE EXTENSION TO AUSTRALIA. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, May 23. Admiration of the high standard of broadcasting in Australia was expressed by the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour, of the "Friendly Road," station, IZB, who returned to Auckland by the Wanganella to-day after a month's visit to Sydney. All the stations were alive and active, ho said, with tlfe result that listeners obtained about 10 times more value from their radio sets than was the case in. New Zealand. "The B stations in Australia are allowed practically unrestricted advertising," Mr Scrimgeour said, "but they are still the most popular, and the national service has to spend huge sums annually in advertising its programmes." The " Friendly Road" idea had been most enthusiastically received in Australia, Mr Scrimgeour continued. Negotiations were still proceeding, and it was possible that " Friendly Road " services would be conducted through a network of Australian stations.
Another point which impressed Mr Scrimgeour was the number of artists of high standing available for radio programmes in Australia. As. a result recorded items were not nearly so numerous as they were in the Dominion.
