(Per United Press Association.* WELLINGTON, May 23. The breaking of an exle of a truck on a goods train on the Main Trunk between Ngaroto and To Awamutu delayed the Auckland-Wellington express and the Limited last night. The express did not arrive at Wellington till 10.29 a.m., and the Limited arrived a minute past 11 o'clock, an hour and a-half late. William Perry Hollings, described on the charge sheet as an ex-solicitor and miner, was charged in the Magistrate's Court to-day with stealing £650, the property of Samuel Wilson, by fraudulently applying to another purpose the proceeds of a cheque which were to have been invested on the security of a first mortgage. The offence was alleged to have been committed about July 7 last. Counsel said that a plea of not guilty would be entered, and that on the instructions he had received the accused had a complete answer to the charge. The accused was Temanded on bail of £SOO to next Wednesday, the police stating that the man's arrest had been made only this morning, and that there were many inquiries to be made. NELSON, May 23.

One of the cases of safe blowing which caused alarm in Nelson in July last was cleared up in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Patrick Terence Burke, aged 39, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering Howcroft's grocery shop and stealing £lO Is 0d in money, and tobacco and cigarettes valued at 2s. Detective Sinclair said that a suitcase found on Waterlea footbridge, Blenheim, contained plasticine and explosives, and was later forwarded to Nelson. He found that the plasticine corresponded with that used on Howcroft's safe. The chisel marks on the window corresponded with the chisel in the suitcase, and trousers in the case had the name of Burke written on a pocket. Burke was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for heing in possession of explosives, and was committed to the Wellington Supreme Court for sentence on the major charge.
