ENGINEERS' DISPUTE
DOMINION HEARING ■ ' AN AGREEMENT WANTED. Messrs T. 0. Bishop, secretary.of the Employers' Federation, and J. Roberts, secretary of the Alliance of Labour, both, of Wellington, will visit Christcburch, this week for the purpose of assisting the employers' and employees' assessors respectively in the Dominion Engineers, Boilermakers, and Moulders' (except Wellington) dispute the hearing of which will begin\ to-morrow. There has been no agreement in the industry since 1932, shortly after the amendments were made to the Industrial Conci'iation and Arbitration Act introducing compulsory coaciliation and voluntary arbitration, except in the case of the Wellington district. ,'•:''"-.
In the case set down for hearing the employees are applying for increased wages and shorter hours,'while the employers are offering the name terms as they offered on the last occasion the assessors came together as a basis of settlement. The offer, it is stated, represents a decrease of 20 per cent, on the rates of pay ruling in 1931.
