BALCLUTHA The Clutha and Owaka senior teams | met on the Show Ground at Balclutha, and an interesting game resulted. Owaka, although holding their own well in the general run of the play, were outclassed, when it came to scoring. From a scrum, Bowcott passed out to Tom Gold (wing three-quarter), and the latter scored in a good position. L. Guest missed wiln the kick at goal. A little later Gold received a pass from Guest, and had no difficulty i in adding another three points, Guest s [ kick failing. Guest scored the nexi. try, but failed to enhance the score. Betore the spell ended Bowcott got the ball tiom a line out and scored a clever try, which Moffat converted. Clutha 14, Owaka nil. In the second spell Ted Wilson narrowly missed kicking a penalty goal for Owaka. Cruickshanks (the Clutha centre) scored a nice try,, and Tinsely Wilson added the extra points. Owaka showed up with a splendid rush, and just missed scoring. Clutha's score was further enhanced by Dawson, whose try Wilson failed to convert. Then Gold made a splendid run from halfway to score right under the posts, and added the extra points. Pass-: ing between Guest and Bowcott saw the latter touch down, but the score was disallowed. Boddington (Clutha) mude a fine run, and passed to Milne, who scored. The only further score was a good try by Dawson, which Wilson converted, the game thus ending in a win for Clutha by 35 points to nil. Findlater, Geary, Ted Wilson, and Latta showed up prominently for Owaka, while for the winners perhaps the most noticeable were Cruickshanks, T. Gold, Guest, and T. Wilson. Boddington was very prominent among the winning forwards, as were Stephens and Milne. The Rev. F. J. Handy controlled the game. ' The best wheat threshing yield so far recorded in the Milton district this season is a yield of 160 bags of the Red Chaff variety from a seven-acre paddock on Mr J. A. Miller's "Morley Park" farm, Tokoiti district. This is equivalent to 76 bushels per acre. The previous best recorded yield from this property was 70 bushels per acre. . At the meeting of the. Milton Fire Brigade members an additional two-years' service bar was presented to Superintendent W. H. Wells. ' This completes his 25 years' service, as a fireman, and the United Fire Brigades' Association gold star is to be presented at a public social function being tendered by the brigade members.

A statement of accounts of the Queen Carnival held recently in aid of the Milton Municipal Brass Band fund to repay a debt of £368 2s 5d due to the/guarantors on the new instruments has been prepared by the carnival central executive. This shows that the gross receipts totalled £435 lis 4d, and the central executive's expenses £39 lis 6d, leaving a net credit balance of £396 lis lid.

, A highly successful social function, organised by the. Tokomairiro Farmers' Club, was held on Friday evening in St. John's Hall, which was. attended by over 60 couples, principally representing the farming community. The function was arranged to foster the social spirit during the off season of the club's activities, also for the purpose of presenting the numerous silver cups won at the last Summer Show. These were handed over to the successful exhibitors by the; club's president (Mr W. Moore), who, in a happy speech, congratulated the winners. Dancing was interspersed with musical items, and an enjoyable function terminated about 1.30 a.m.

The Rev. T. H. M'Neur,,of. the Presbyterian Canton Village mission, is at present visiting Milton as the guest of his brother (the Rev. Arch M'Neur). He conducted the service at Toko Presbyterian Church this morning, and on Friday delivered an address before the Clutha Presbytery at Balclutha on missionary work in China. Two maintenance cases and two charges of breaches of the motor regulations comprised the business before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., at the monthly sitting of the local Magistrate's Court.—An order for payment of 15s a week was made against Hans Mar Hansen on the application of his wife- for maintenance. —Jessie Duffy, with three children, proceeded against her husband, Matthias Duffy, on a maintenance plaint. After the defendant had given evidence denying paternity of any of the children, and stating that his only income was £3 15s per month from a war pension, the magistrate deferred decision until the Juno sitting, pending an application to the Pensions' Board for an increased pension.—On informations laid bv the inspector of the Main Highwavs Board John O'Connor was charged with driving a motor car without lights at Waihola and with failing to produce a driver's lifen.se. He was mulcted in penalties totalling £2 18s.
