VICTORIAN CENTENARY

VISIT OF SCHOOL ATHLETES OPPOSED BY HEAD MASTERS. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 9. The annual meeting of the Association of Heads of the Registered Secondary Schools of New Zealand adopted a resolution expressing the opinion that it was inadvisable to semi secondary school athletes from New Zealand to the Melbourne centenary celebrations on the following grounds: (1) It wotdd tend to have an undesirable influence on the character and general outlook of the boys' by ’giving sport an undue value in their minds. (2) It would take the boys away from school for at least one month. (3) It would bo contrary to the best traditions of school sport in New Zealand, which regards sport as a part.of school life to be controlled and managed by the schools themselves and not by outside bodies. ACCOMMODATION BUREAU. For the benefit of all visitors to Melbourne for the centenary celebrations, an official accommodation bureau has been established by the Centenary Council. This will prove a great boon to intending travellers to Victoria’s biHhday party, and full advantage will' no doubt be taken of the facilities offered, by country people and interstate visitors. The address is; Tile Official Accommodation Bureau, -135 Collins street, Melbourne, C. 1., and in writing for information regarding accommodation, exact requirements and probable date and duration of visit should be stated. Every care will be taken to give the inquirer what is suitable, and all classes of visitor will bo catered for by the officials. The advantage „of such a bureau will be that any booking may be relied upon, as all accommodation will be inspected and inquiries made before it is submitted to an intending visitor. The establishment of this accommodation bureau is typical of the arrangements that arc .being made for the Victorian centenary celebrations. No stone is being left unturned to make a holiday in Victoria in 1934-35 a memorable event.
