BOXING

CONTESTS IN INVERCARGILL (Pee United Pbess Association.) INVERCARGILL, May 0. Two professional boxing contests of 10 three-minute rounds were staged in the Civic Theatre by the Southland Boxing Association this evening, there being a very large attendance. In the heavy-weight contest Maurice Strickland (12.10), of Wellington, defeated Val Luttrell (12.6), of Hastings, on a technical knockout in the tenth round after the latter had been down for the count of nine. . The light heavy-weight bout between Ray Nicol (12.2), of Ohai, and Harry Lister (11.10), of Greymouth, was won by Nicol on points, the winner leading practically all the way. It was the third meeting of the pair, and Nicol has won on each occasion.
