More than 130 members of the British Parliament are supporting a campaign started by Freddie Fox, the famous jockey, to prevent British horses from being gored to death in the bull rings of Spain and Southern France. More than 6000 horses were shipped to the Continent in 1931. "At present the law only allows horses to be exported for slaughter or further work,” Mr Fox said recently. “We do not know what happens to horses certified as fit for six, nine, or 12 months’ work, but we strongly suspect that some of them are sold to the bull rings,” The result of Mr Fox’s efforts is that a Bill is to be presented in Parliament seeking to prohibit the exportation of horses valued at less than £25.
