TECHNICAL GIRLS’ SPORTS MISS G. RIX WINS CHAMPIONSHIP j i The Technical High School girls held : their annual swimming sports yesterday at the Municipal Baths. Entries in the open events were numerous, but in the championship races it was unfortunate that very few competitors came forward, especially in the senior section. Miss G. Rix and Miss N. Miss Rix took the senior championship with ]3i points, Miss Olds being runnerup with 11J points. The outstanding performer in the junior section was Miss C. Frew MEETING OF OTAGO CENTRE A meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre was held last night, tho president (Mr W. A. Jenkins) occupying the chair. There were also present Messrs R Nnttall, R. O. Johnson, B. Kerr, W. H. Matthews, R. Stackhouse, A, Greig, E. G. James, D. Woodfield, M. Taylor, D. C. Bannatyne, I, Laing, J- Swan, D. Thomson, W. Williams, S. Brown, and the secretary (Mr E. C. Isaacs).

The secretary reported having again communicated with the New Zealand Swimming Council, expressing appreciation of the efforts made by the secretary of the council with regard to W. J. Jarvis's nomination for inclusion" in the New Zealand team for the Empire Games. He had urged the council to ask the Olympic Council for an immediate decision po that in the event of Jarvis’s nomination being approved, an appeal could be launched at once.—The secretary’s action was approved. The secretary reported having received a letter from Mr Dudley Hellmrich advising that R. Clark, H. Tickle, and Mr Hellmrich (as manager and in a coaching capacity) would be available for a tour of New Zealand extending from the middle of November until the end of December. Clark would return from the Empire Gaines in September, and, as both he and Tickle had shown fine form since the Australian national championships, both would do in their power to ensure the success or the carnivals at which they appeared. The secretary added that appearances bad so far been accepted by the Southland, Ashburton, and Otago Centres, and by the Oamaru ami Alexandra Clubs, and replies were still awaited from the West Coast, Canterbury, and South Canterbury Centres. As soon as the answers were received, the negotiations should he completed, since everything pointed to the tour being a decided success.—lt was decided that the matter of a reply to Mr Hellmrich should be left in the bands of the chairman and the secretary. It was decided to offer a trophy annually to the Otago State Primary Schools’ Sports Association for competition at the association's annual swimming carnival, the rules governing the award to be framed by the association. It was decided, when advising the association of the offer, to stipulate that the trophy should not be awarded for the highest aggregate of points gained by any individual competitor, but to suggest that it be in the nature of a prize for the most promising or the most improved swimmer at the meeting.
