AIR MAIL TO AUSTRALIA
TO THE EDITOB.
g Tß) —With reference to the air mail to be carried by the Southern Cross from New Zealand to Australia on the 28th inst., I wish to point out to all those who are interested that letters carried by this mail will be of very little intrinsic value to philatelists, apart from the stamps with which the letters are franked. The first official mail from New Zealand to Australia was carried by the Faith in Australia, Commander Ulm, on February 17, and it is always the letters carried by the first official serial mail that count and are valued and sought after by collectors of first flown covers, and no others are recognised by air mail cover collectors. I advise, therefore, all those who intend mailing letters by . the Southern Cross to frauk their mail ; with the new 7d blue Faith in Australia stamp (as will be permissible), because used copies of this commemorative stamp will be scarce and they will increase in value as the years roll by. Already they are worth double their face value, provided they are in good condition.—l am, etc., C. G. Fryer.
Panmure, Auckland, March 21. [The mail by ; the Southern Cross will close in Dunedin at 10 a.m. to-day.—Ed. O.D.T.]
