TROTTING

By Sentinel. Agile has done well of late, and looks in great order. He is moving along quietly in his work in preparation for the Ashburton meeting next month. Acceptances for the first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Easter meeting will close on Tuesday next, at noon. Biddy Parrish is trotting in great style in her track work, and she is in line for a much-overdue win. She figures in both trotters' races at Addington next week, and on her track work she should be fancied.

The Wanganui Trotting Club will hold its second meeting to-day. C. S. Donald has three horses engaged, and M. B. Edwards's stable will be represented by Smoke Screen. Wahnooka won a race last Saturday, and may be prominent today. Indianapolis will not start in the match race against Walla Walla and the pick of the local horses at Addington on Saturday week. Jewel Pointer will take his place in the field, which now will comprise Walla Walla, Red Shadow, Harold Logan, Rpi l'Or, and Jewel Pointer. Officials of the Ashburton .. Supertax, who paid the largest dividend of .the day when he won the. Autumn Handicap at Wanganui, is a three-year-old colt by the American trotting horse Maxegin, from Gracie Logan, and shows a good deal of promise. He did not have a very good passage in the Innova* tion Handicap, but displayed speed, and his party was confident that he would do better at his second attempt. He is trained, by the veteran Hutt trainer T. Leadbe'tter,' and was driven a good race by H. Garnett. The Forbury Park Trotting Club has issued the programme for its meeting to be held on May 3 and 5, and will offer £2500 in stakes during the two days' racing. On the opening day the Ritchie Memorial Handicap, of two miles, is worth 325sovs, and is for horses that cap do two miles in 4min 32sec or better. The rich prize should attract numerous entries. On the second day of the meeting the James Memorial Handicap, also for 4min 32sec class horses, ia worth 275sovs. . The Wellington pacer Flintlock is engaged at the Wanganui Trotting Club's meeting to-day. Flintlock is a speedy horse, and is above any in his class at the Wanganui Club's meeting. He is on the limit of a 3min 41sec class, and he should be favourite. He is in L. O. Thomas's stable at Lower Hutt. Thomas has another much-improved horse at Wanganui in Lord Wrack. He is in a mile race. Lord Wrack is a quick beginner, and he may please his connections. The Nelson Derby gelding Dundee was a strong fancy for the Oamaru Trot, but he did not begin well. He made a fast move coming round the top, but stopped at the home turn. Sir Gowan won comfortably over the final furlong after being well placed all the way. # ' Greenmantle put in a strong finish over the final furlong of the Waikaura Trot and was going away at the finish. He had a good deal of ground to make up from the home turn, but did bo in good style. The two events at Oamaru have filled well again, and the favourites are likely to be:—Redcastle Handicap—Red Flyer, Colleen Chenault, Cam Dillon; Weston Handicap—Modern Lady, Sir Gowan, Greenmantle.
