ALEXANDRA NOTES (From Oor own Correspondent.) \ ALEXANDRA, March 23. PUBLIC WORKS UNDERTAKING. The construction of the. dam in Conroy's Creek about three miles and a-half from Alexandra is now well under way. Approximately 20 men are at present employed and will be for the next six months. The smaller dam known ; as Paget's is also well under way and is, employing about six men. The department has also in hand the surveying of a site for a small dam in Butcher's Creek, all of these undertakings being for irrigation and mining purposes. MINING.

Considerable interest has been created locally by the over-subscription in London of the capital for the new Molyneux Electric Dredge. Old miners who worked on the dredges in the boom days are confident that an up-to-date dredge will yield returns that will more than repay the promoters for their enterprise. The owners of the Linger and Die claim are still having trouble in handling the water in the claim, but hope that the installation of an up-to-date pump will overcome this difficulty. Unemployed miners continue to come and go. There are at present about 120 men prospecting in the immediate vicin-» ity of Alexandra. ' LARGE PARSNIPS. A parsnip five feet in length was reported as having been grown in Dunedin lately, but it has been eclipsed by a local resident, Mr J. Magnus, who has grown a parsnip measuring sft 4Jin. BOWLING. The Pairs competition to find Alexandra representatives for the centre Pairs Championship to be held at Clyde on Saturday has now been completed. In section 1 E. Marslin and J. D. Watt defeated H. Hesson and W. H. Hinton and will thus represent that section, while F. Dobbie and T. A. Mooney will represent section 2. PERSONAL.
