OPERATIONS OF FLOATING DOCK ERECTION OF NEW BEACON. (Peb United Peess Association.) WELLINGTON, March 23. _ The Wellington Harbour Board engineer's report on the operation of the Jubilee Floating Dock during the 12 months ended' September 30 last states that the total expenditure was £SOOB, and the total earnings £4700. The net cost of the dock on the working account for the year was £239. The work of constructing on Thorndon Breastwork a large reinforced concrete beacon, designed to replace the iron buoy on the west side of the harbour entrance, near the south end of Worser Bay, is nearing completion by the Harbour Board staff. The beacon is being installed in response to representations by shipping companies and shipmasters as to its desirability as an additional safety factor in the working of the harbour. Vessels entering the harbour on leading beacons will open up the new light just before coming abreast of the Steeple Rock The beacon will also be of assistance to departing ships. Its total weight will be over 100 tons. It has been built in three sections, and will be placed in position by the floating crane, Hikitea. \■ . ,
